I’ve been always been wanting to upgrade the stereo to something that can actually be functional. I’m working with a 120 dollar battery less Shield Tablet, a cheap head unit, a hardwired power setup and a basic wiring harness so the head unit can connect.

As much as I like my current setup, the lack of an aux really affects this. This will finally allow me to have a usable GPS (mine just buzzes and lags for ages) and allow me to maintain listening to radio.

And the reason that tablet is only 120 dollars is that it probably was saved from the crusher and it’s probably a recall unit. Diagrams below.

How is the Shield tablet? I had one in my shopping cart, with the mouse over “checkout”, but then I pondered whether I spend the money on it or not. I decided not.

The tablet is very fast. Un skinned, swift, and crazy fast transitions everywhere. Plays 1080 60p GoPro footage with ease. Battery is decent, and the build quality is questionable. But you buy if for the speed.

Or aux. I'll see what I can find.

I say single DIN aftemarket radio is teh solution. It will take up one slot, and a mount for the tablet comes out fo the other slot. the tablet will cover the radio, but it’s just a reciever anyway, you’ll do all the controlling of the actual music and sound etc from the tablet.

and when tablet isnt in the car you’ll just have a standard radio, with a possible goofy arm thing sticking out over it

Single DIN was the method I'm going, as I want the tablet back to be decently flush against the supporting panel.
